Greece Library Trustee Named President of the MCLS Board of Trustees
11/3/2009
Linda Caligiuri, a long time Greece Library Trustee, was recently named President of the Monroe County Library System Board of Trustees. Linda has a long and diverse history of volunteer service ranging from libraries to politics. However, four passions have been central to her life: family, faith, learning and literacy.
Linda was born and raised in Eden, New York but has lived most of her life in the town of Greece. Linda and her husband John married 36 years ago and settled in Greece. When their children were young Linda worked as a “stay-at-home-mom” for many years. Her devotion and dedication to her children has paid great dividends in terms of 3 successful adults. Her oldest son John, currently works for the Border Patrol in Texas and has completed a tour of service to his country in Iraq. Michael is a manager at the Plaza Hotel in New York City and Kristina is a graduate of the University of Rochester and is employed at Paychex.
She is also an active parishioner at St. John’s Church. Linda’s service has included: Eucharistic ministry, prayer shawl ministry, teaching confirmation classes and functioning as a lay reader during church services.
Linda has been involved in education all her adult life. She graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a degree in education and has done graduate work at SUNY Brockport.
Linda currently tutors full time in her private business and with the Greece Central School District.
It is Linda’s passion for literacy which brought her to her current position as President of the Monroe County Library System Board of Trustees. Over twenty-five years ago, Linda was a young mother regularly bringing her children to the library for story time. To ensure that more children had the same opportunity, she volunteered to present library story time to groups of children on a weekly basis. Her education background and experience as a pre-school teacher made her an instant success.
